Gede Mountain

Gede Mountain located at East Java, Indonesia. Visited almost 18.000 tourist / year and only 3 hours car riding from Jakarta, Gede Mountain is nearest popular hiking destination from Jakarta.

Gede Mountain is part of Gede – Pangrango National Park since 1981 and under three major cities territorial (Bogor, Cianjur, and Sukabumi).

251 birds species you can see there, its more than 65% of total in Java Island. Some rare birds you can find here is Elang Jawa (Spizaetus bartelsi) and Sunda Owl (Otus angelinae).

Tourism Object In Mount Gede

Telaga Biru

Small five hectares lake located about 1.5 Kilometer from Cibodas Gate. This lake looks blue when shining by sun because it was covered by blue weed.

Cibeureum Waterfall

With 60 M height Cibodas waterfall located about 2.8 Kilometer from Cibodas Gate. It surround by red weed, so sometimes we will see the water turn into red.

Hot Water River

Located 5.3 Kilometer from Gate, water temperature can reach 75 celcius, but when rain comes, temperature will decrease.

Kandang Batu and Kandang Badak

Is camping ground located 2220 meter above sea level or about 3.5 Hours walking from Cibodas Gate. This place usually for animal and plants watching.

Top and Crater

With the panorama of sunset or sunrise, we can see paving of Bogor, Sukabumi, and Cianjur clearly. Its located 2478 from sea above level and about 9.5 hours walking from Cibodas Gate.

Alun – Alun Surya Kencana

Alun – alun mean wide ground is a call for place where people crowded in Indonesia. Alun – alun Suryakencana is wide ground with many edelweis there.

History And Legend

History and legend Mount Gede is the belief of the local community about the existence of grandparent Suryakencana and Prabu Siliwangi in Mount Gede.

Peoples there believes that the spirit and grandparent Suryakencana Prabu Siliwangi will keep the Mount Gede in order not to explode.

At the time, many people  enter the cave to cave around Mount Gede for  imprisoned perform religious ceremonies.

How To Get There?

From Jakarta,

• Take Bus Jakarta – Bandung Route Direction (IDR 15.000 – IDR 30.000)
• Tell Driver to drop off at Cibodas
• From Cibodas pick yellow mini bus to Gede Pangrango (IDR 2.500 – IDR 5.000)

Accomodation And Guide?

Hotel and Resort around Gede Pangrango is range from IDR 200.000 to IDR 400.000. And for guiding, you can pick up at Gede Pangrango Ranger Office, it will cost around to IDR 75.000
